Why was the map created?

In February 2025, the Sandie Peggie Employment Tribunal hit the headlines in the UK. A nurse had been disciplined and suspended at work for using the word "man" to explain why she did not want to get undressed next to a trans identified colleague at work in the women's changing room.

This was the moment when many people became aware of some of the strange policies about single sex spaces that the NHS was operating. It inspired a group of regular women to investigate - in the end auditing 326 NHS Trusts across the UK. About 40 women participated although the core group was around a dozen. The audit was carried out between March and August 2025 based on Freedom of Information searches carried out in 2024.

We had assumed that after the Supreme Court Ruling in April 2025, that the NHS would revise their policies and restore single sex spaces for women and girls. But this has not been the case - which is inexplicable given the harms to women, which are now better understood than when many policies were written 5 years ago.

We hope that this map will provide a useful resource for those seeking to encourage the NHS to return to the lawful practice of providing protected single sex spaces for women once more.

We have not found any evidence that the NHS Trusts have been publishing new policies, so UK citizens will need to ask their local services what is happening for up to date news.
